A local charity for children is a finalist in this year’s National Lottery Awards and will feature on BBC One’s National Lottery live tomorrow (Saturday).

The inspirational work of the Fellowship of St Nicholas, based in London Road, St Leonards, and its project Dragonflies@fsn will be featured on the prime-time programme in the annual search for the UK’s favourite lottery-funded projects, and it could be named the UK’s best voluntary/charity project.

Dragonflies@fsn provides life-changing support to children and young people aged five to 18 who have lost a parent, family member, friend or have learnt that someone close to them is dying.

Lesley Brown, manager of Dragonflies@fsn, says she is delighted that its work will reach a national audience. She said: “For a small Sussex charity, this is a wonderful opportunity to raise our profile and to educate millions of people about our work. We are thrilled that so many viewers will discover how we brighten the lives of young people, helping them through incredibly difficult times.

“The filming had positive impact on our young people, many of whom were withdrawn beforehand but had smiles on their faces by the end of the filming day.”

Dragonflies@fsn is one of seven projects from around the country competing in the voluntary/charity category of The National Lottery Awards 2014. Earlier in the summer, the public voted for their favourite project and the winner will be announced over the coming weeks and celebrated in a special star-studded awards ceremony on BBC One in September.
