Lewes assault victim suffers eye socket injury

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 33-year-old man who was attacked between the High Street and Fisher Street, Lewes on Sunday April 1.

The victim, from Glynde, had been out socialising at Lincoln’s Bar, High Street, Lewes, with a friend when the assault took place between 1am and 1.15am.

The victim suffered serious head injuries including a suspected fractured eye socket.

He was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where he remained overnight.

He must return to Brighton Eye Hospital later in the month for his eye to be re-examined to determine the extent of his injury.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who may have observed any disagreement or witnessed the assault involving two men either in Lincoln’s Bar or outside.

A 29-year-old man from Lewes, was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was later released on bail until May 13.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 quoting serial 0111 of 1/4. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
