£5,000 distributed to local good causes

A host of good causes across the borough have been handed a share of £5,000 by the Hastings Old Town Carnival Committee.

The funds were collected during this year’s annual pram race.

Committee members distributed the money on November 2 during a special presentation evening at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association.

The evening started with the presentation of the Shield for the most money collected at the Carnival to the RNLI by the Mayor, Cllr Bruce Dowling. A cheque to the RNLI was presented by the Carnival Queen Leylah Dobinson followed by the presentation of the Gary Fellows Cup, by Gary Fellows, to Derek Rainer, Andy Salmon and Norman Salmon from the Ore Masqueraders for outstanding support to the Carnival Association.

The list of recipients: Royal British Legion, Hastings & St Leonards Lifeguards, Gizmo Theatre Group, 2nd Hastings Rainbows, 2nd Hastings Brownies, Kidzone Salvation Army, Triple 20’s Dragonflies takes Flight, Fellowship of St Nicholas, Hastings Coastal Twirlers, West Hill Youth Club, Hastings Gateway Club, Seaview Project, Association of Carers, Hastings Sanctuary Service, Hastings Shopmobility, Surviving Christmas, Hastings & Rother Voluntary Assoc. for the Blind, St John Ambulance, Hastings Hospital Radio, Rock-a-Nore Football Club, RSPCA Hastings, Huntingtons Disease Association, Two Towers Trust, Hastings Samaritans, Hastings Trolley Bus Restoration Group, Penny Beale Memorial Trust, Parchment Trust, The Community Club, Hotshots, Citzens Advice Bureau, Hastings Coastguards, Pulse School of Movement, Old Town Scout Group, Hastleons, Hastings Pensioners Association, Snowflake Nightshelter, TS Hastings

Carnival spokesman Ion Castro said: “After the carnival fun it’s a pleasure to know we are able to recognise the valuable contribution made by members of Hastings’ voluntary sector by making donations to help them in their work. Don’t forget the Association’s AGM at 10am at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association this Sunday(Nov 16).”
