A man from Hastings has appeared in court this morning charged with a suspected acid attack on a man at his home in Cornwall leaving him with serious injuries.
David Phillips, 48, of Barley Lane, was charged with Grevous Bodily Harm with intent when he appeared before Truro Magistrates Court.
The court remanded Phillips to Truro Crown Court where he will appear on January 6.
According to Devon and Cornwall Police the incident is alleged to have taken place in Carrine Road, Truro on December 9 following reports that a corrosive substance, believed to be acid, had been thrown in a man’s face.
The 29-year-old victim was attacked in his own home at around 4pm.
Police, ambulance and fire service attended the scene. The man was taken to Treliske Hospital, Truro, with life-threatening facial injuries. He has since been transferred to a specialist unit where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
A 16 year-old youth arrested in Sussex on suspicion of attempted murder was released with no further action being taken.
