The 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Several floral tributes have been placed close to the scene of the collision.

Among those paying their respects were Jamie’s uncle John Lomath who lives in Camber.

Jamie lived with his uncle for around six months when he first moved down from his home in Brixton, London aged 17.

Mr Lomath, speaking on behalf of his wife, Julie and two sons, said: “Jamie was a very friendly lad.

“I last saw him a couple of weeks ago and he said everything was going well.

“We moved to Camber from Crystal Palace in 2008. He came down from Brixton. I brought him down when he was 17. He lived with us for about six months and then got himself a flat in Hastings. His mother is my wife’s sister.

“I have two boys Christopher, 20, and Steven, 17, and they kind of grew up with him. They looked up to him like a big brother. They always saw him as their big brother.

“Jamie was a good boy, a happy boy. He didn’t deserve this. He was part of our family here and we will really miss him.”

Friend Hannah McKenzie, 29, who lives in St Leonards, said: “Jamie was quite caring. He was working as a scaffolder. He was happy working. He was very helpful and he was always there when I needed him. He will be sorely missed.”

A tribute on a bunch of flowers at the scene read: “My handsome baby brother-there are no words to describe how I’m feeling but absolute heartbreak. You were taken from us so soon. You had your whole life ahead of you.”
