The A27 from Polegate to Alfriston reopened at 11.50pm last night following a fatal road accident.
The road closed at 11.40am yesterday (March 5), after a lorry overturned.
Emergency services rushed to the incident, and police announced a man in his forties, who was driving a car, died at the scene.
A 41-ton container lorry with a load of aluminium overturned on the westbound A27 outside Folkington Manor between Polegate and Drusillas roundabout, before colliding with a car.
One other vehicle, a scaffolding lorry, suffered minor damage.
The driver of the lorry was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to be treated for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for more than 12 hours yesterday, which left the A259 between Eastbourne and Seaford congested throughout the day.
