There has been a fresh call this morning (Tuesday) for bosses at Eastbourne DGH to resign and for the government to put the trust which runs the hospital in to special measures.
In an unprecedented move, Eastbourne Borough Council is calling for the Chief Inspector of Hospitals to put the trust in to special measures and calls upon the individuals concerned to take what it calls “the honourable course of action” by resigning their posts and allowing the trust to rebuild.
The latest move by the council, which is expected to get full political party support at a meeting tomorrow night, comes in the aftermath of the vote of no confidence in chief executive Darren Grayson and trust chairman Stuart Wellings by the East Sussex health watchdog HOSC last week.
Eastbourne council leader David Tutt said today, “In light of the unanimous vote of no confidence in the Chief Executive and Chairman of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust by the East Sussex Health Overview Scrutiny Committee, Eastbourne Borough Council calls upon the Chief Inspector of Hospitals to place the Trust into special measures and write to the Secretary of State to make him aware of this action. We also call upon the individuals concerned to take the honourable course of action by resigning their posts and allowing the Trust to rebuild.”
The council is expected to back the emergency motion at its meeting tomorrow night (Wednesday).
