Police are investigating after a dog scared sheep and forced one of them over the clifftop at the Seven Sisters Country Park at the weekend.

Walkers saw the drama and took photographs of the dog, which was not on a lead chasing two lambs.

One of the terrified animals plunged to its death over the cliff top.

Zoe Stanisstreet was there and said, “This dog chased two lambs resulting in one being forced off the cliff.

“Not only is this a huge loss but both these lambs would have experienced a great deal of stress and panic. Many tourists were present during this horrific ordeal. “Sheep worrying is a growing problem for farmers not only in the south east but across the country and is a criminal offence.”

The story quickly spread on Facebook in a bid to trace the dog’s owner.

Dave Burton, who lives in Eastbourne but is currently on holiday in America, said, “I’ve been an Eastbourne resident all my life and have noticed on Facebook a story with images of a dog up at the Seven Sisters cliffs harassing two young sheep to the point where one was forced over the edge.

“Way too many dogs are allowed to roam around public areas out of control, but this tops them all as utter horror.”
