A Metropolitan Police Officer from Heathfield has been short-listed for the QBE Insurance Coach of the Year Award because of his dedication to Heathfield and Waldron RFC and services to county rugby.
David Cook has spent the past eight years coaching local children in the area and has recently been promoted to senior club coach having led teams at Heathfield and Waldron RFC to county league cup finals, national RFU plate competitions and local seven’s tournaments.
Rob Harvey, a fellow club member who nominated David for the award said: “David’s passion and enthusiasm for coaching is truly remarkable. He has worked tirelessly to get the best out of the kids, improving their skills on the pitch as well as their social behaviour and development off the pitch. His dedication to his teams has seen the club go from strength to strength, increasing our membership numbers which in turn has allowed us to compete against larger clubs on both a regional and national stage.”
The QBE Insurance Coach of the Year Award is a national accolade that recognises outstanding rugby club coaches across the country.
The award is part of the National Rugby Awards, which this year has been endorsed by England rugby captain Chris Robshaw and looks to honour the achievements of all the thousands of rugby clubs across the country.
QBE Insurance, official insurance partner of the England Rugby Team, recognises coaching is a crucial factor in developing, sustaining and increasing participation in rugby union. Sponsoring the National Rugby Awards is a natural extension to the QBE Coaching Club – a joint initiative between QBE and the Rugby Football Union to recruit and train 2,015 new level two coaches by September 2015.
Nick Mott, sponsorship manager at QBE Insurance, said: “QBE is delighted to sponsor the Coach of the Year Award and continue our support of rugby coaches. QBE works with its clients to plan for the future, to identify risks and manage them accordingly. We work with the RFU to identify coaching development as an area of risk to mitigate by ensuring a quality coaching infrastructure is in place to capture new players and keep them engaged in rugby.”
The winner of the award will be announced at the National Rugby Awards Night on Wednesday, September 2. To buy tickets, visit: www.nationalrugbyawards.co.uk.
