UPDATE: Bomb disposal experts secure items from Uckfield house

Bomb disposal experts raiding a home in Uckfield have secured two black bags from the property, an eyewitness has said.

At 9.10am this morning (Thursday, July 23), Sussex Police officers executed a search warrant under the Explosives Substances Act at an address in Anvil Close.

A Royal Logistics Corps Bomb Disposal vehicle arrived at about 11.45am and explosives experts from military ordnance disposal were examining some items at the address to assess what their potential for harm may be.

According to eyewitness reports, bomb disposal experts secured two black bags in the back of their van shortly after 2pm. Police have now left the scene.

A spokesperson from Sussex Police said: “At 9.10am on Thursday (23 July), Sussex Police officers executed a search warrant under the Explosives Substances Act at an address in Anvil Close, Uckfield.

“Some items at the address were examined by explosives experts from military ordnance disposal, to assess what their potential for harm may be.

“There was no risk to the public and no adjacent premises were evacuated.

“A 38-year old man was interviewed at the address under caution, but was not arrested. Enquiries will continue to establish what if any offences may have been committed.
