A fun table tennis taster session for all the family will be held at Lewes YMCA, Westgate Street on Sunday, September 20 from 2–5.30pm.
The session is being run by St Michael’s Table Tennis Club which has been meeting at the YMCA since 2002. The Club is for players of any standard from seven years upwards and includes anyone who has thought about table tennis but never tried it before. The cost on the day will be £1.
Organisers hope those who come will enjoy it so much they will want to join the Club which meets on Tuesday evenings at the YMCA during the schools’ term time. The Club has both adults’ and children’s sessions. It is run by its members who do so entirely on a voluntary basis.
At school level this year some of the Club’s juniors achieved significant success.
Club members were part of the Wallands School team that hit the high spots by being East Sussex Boys’ U11 Champions and Boys’ U13 Champions.
Both teams made it to the Regional Finals in London and both only narrowly missed out on reaching the National Finals.
At an individual level, Roddy McGillivray was runner-up in the Boys’ U13 event. Club members formed the boys’ element of a mixed team from the South Downs Area that won the U13 trophy at the Sainsbury South Downs Games.
