A planning application to build a 150-bedroom hotel on land adjacent to the AMEX stadium in Falmer has been submitted to Lewes District Council.
The application was submitted to the council’s planning committee on Friday, September 11 and is currently pending consideration.
The plan is for a three-storey hotel comprising 150 bedrooms, restaurant, bar, reception, gymnasium, meeting room and lounge on land next to the 30,000-seater stadium.
The proposal includes the removal of an earth bund on Village Way and the construction of 62 parking spaces alongside the associated hard and soft landscaping.
Provisions for a cancer radiotherapy unit at basement level was also included in the plan, submitted by Albion Sports and Leisure Limited as part of its Falmer Vision.
Upon completion, the proposed hotel is expected to provide an additional £5.8m each year and 82 full-time equivalent jobs to the local economy.
In a Socio Economic Impact Assessment submitted as part of the application, it states: “ASLL will ensure the Hotel Operator encourages the use of public transport.
“ASLL will liaise closely with the South Downs National Park Authority to establish how it can best promote access to the National Park. This could include providing specific facilities on site that promote walking and cycling.”
The standard consultation will end on October 20. View plan LW/15/0754 for details.
