Newhaven lifeboat was launched to help Birling Gap Coastguard after reports of an unconscious casualty at the bottom of the cliffs between Belle Tout Lighthouse and Beachy Head on Wednesday (July 10).
Lifeboat volunteers joined in the search at 5.20pm and, as the precise location of the casualty was unknown, Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 104 was tasked.
After a short time the casualty was located by the helicopter crew and the paramedic on board was winched down to the beach.
The lifeboats inflatable Y boat was launched with three crew on board.
Having negotiated the shallow rocky waters, the crew members made their way to the casualty to offer any assistance.
The casualty was found to be dead and was taken to Birling Gap and into the care of officers from Sussex Police.
