A MAN was robbed and assaulted by two men as he walked along a road in Newhaven, on Monday.
The 55-year-old victim was approached by the suspects at 2pm in Hillcrest Road. Police said he was threatened and struck on the leg before being robbed of various items of jewellery.
It is believed the suspects then fled up Hillcrest Road in the direction of Second Avenue.
The victim sustained bruising to the back of his leg but did not require hospital treatment.
Detective Constable John Steven from East Sussex CID said: “This was a nasty assault on a man going about his daily business. We believe the suspects are local to the area and would urge people to please come forward if they have any information that could help police with their inquiries.
“Please call 101 quoting serial 730 of 16/1 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The suspects are described as white males, approximately 6’ tall, aged around 20 and of medium build. One of the males has a piercing in his left eye brow.
Items of jewellery which were stolen included a watch and a wedding ring, both of sentimental value.
