Hastings Against War will commemorate those who lost their lives in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945 on Wednesday (August 6).
A ceremony will take place at the boating lake in Alexandra Park starting at 8.15pm. The ceremony will be opened by Hastings Mayor, Bruce Dowling. There will be a short talk by local author Ann Kramer, as well as singing by the Las Pasionarias and the Soka Gakkai choirs. Finally, at sunset, floating lanterns will be released on the lake, in the traditional Japanese style. Hastings Against War meets on the first and third Tuesdays each month at 7.30pm in the Friends Meeting House, South Terrace, Hastings, a venue with easy ground-floor access.
